Please join us on Tuesday, January 20th from 11am - 12pm for an informal Meet n’ Greet with our new director, Megan Brooks.
Megan (rhymes with ‘vegan’) comes to the Jesup from the academic library world. She is a librarian, strategist, and enthusiastic advocate for libraries. Most recently, Megan served as Dean of Library Services at Wheaton College (MA), where she developed and taught the course "Introduction to Libraries and Archives" and co-founded the college’s Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums certificate program. Previously she directed research and instructional support teams in the libraries of Mount Holyoke and Wellesley Colleges. In these roles, she oversaw collection development, archives and special collections, research support, and strategic planning that made the library more accessible, inclusive, and supportive to students.
Megan has served on the boards of the Oberlin Group of Libraries, the HELIN Library Consortium, the College Library Director Mentoring Program, and the Massachusetts Library System. Brooks earned a BA from the College of St. Benedict and an MLS from Syracuse University.
Megan says, “I'm utterly delighted to be selected to usher the Jesup Memorial Library into its next era. As a librarian and leader, I follow two primary principles: library services, collections, and programs must center on the community and its needs; and the library as an organization must continually engage in self-reflection and improvement. I am committed to the belief that libraries transform lives.
It's an honor and privilege to join the library at this critical juncture, when old and new come together in an accessible, beautiful, and visionary space. I'm looking forward to working with the talented Jesup team, the Board of Directors, and the community of Bar Harbor as we continue to grow and strengthen these efforts together. My spouse Amy and I, along with our dogs, are thrilled to move to the Bar Harbor community.”
