Author Talk with Celeste Donohue: Hollywood Factotum

  • Jesup Memorial Library 34 Mt. Desert Street Bar Harbor, Maine 04609 (map)

On Thursday, January 8th, 2026 at 6:30pm, Celeste Donohue will appear at the Jesup Memorial Library for an author talk on Hollywood Factotum, released in November 2025. This program is offered online and in-person.

When Celeste Donohue moved to Hollywood in 1990 to chase her dream of becoming an entertainer, she never imagined that it would take decades-and 49 day jobs-to find what she was truly searching for. Alongside celebrity encounters and casting calls came financial struggles, emotional chaos, and an endless parade of difficult bosses. In the midst of it all, Celeste began to wonder if the real obstacle was herself. That realization sparked a deep personal transformation, leading to a kind of fulfilment she hadn't expected-one rooted not in fame, but in self-awareness and evolution. Hollywood Factotum is a candid, witty, and heartfelt account of what it really takes to pursue a dream and survive in a city that tests your every limit.

Celeste Donohue was born and raised in Philadelphia, where she started her performing career at the age of twelve. By the time she was twenty-three, she was on her way to Los Angeles, where she worked as a dancer, singer, actor, and comedian. But it was writing that always came the easiest. Initially writing for magazines, that led to copywriting, blogging, and scriptwriting. After many years of rewriting her resume, she finally got around to writing her first book about all the day jobs she's endured while pursuing a career in entertainment.
