A free-to-enter, all ages chess tournament organized by MDI Chess and the Jesup Memorial Library. Beginner friendly; if you know how the pieces move, this tournament is for you! WHAT TO BRING:
Your own chess sets and clocks, if you have them. A limited number will be available for those without.
Water bottles and food, if desired. Light snacks will be provided for free by the library.
TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE & TIMELINE:
40 players maximum
Four sections
Open (most advanced players) - first round starts at 12:30pm
Rated Under 1000 - first round starts at 12:45pm
Rated Under 500 - first round starts at 1:00pm
Non-Rated Community - first round starts at 1:15pm
Check-in/late registration for each section opens 30 minutes before the first round of that section.
Four rounds of Swiss (no elimination) in each section. Rated games get 30 minutes per side (G/30). Non-rated games get 15 minutes per side (G/15). Expected to finish by 5:00pm.
Prizes will be awarded by the library to the top three players in each section.
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS:
All sections - except Non-Rated Community - are US Chess Federation rated and require a US Chess membership, available for purchase at uschess.org.
Half price scholastic (PK-12th grade) US Chess memberships available through Maine Chess Association: chessmaine.net/chessmaine/2025/02/how-to-redeem-meca-subsidized-.html
