Dear Jesup community, As summer finally looks to appear in sight, we are getting ready for the 55th Annual Booksale to support the Jesup Memorial Library. This year, the Booksale will take place on Saturday, August 16th from 10am to 4pm. The Booksale is a long-standing community event which provides significant support for the library. This is the last year the sale will be hosted by our gracious neighbors, the Bar Harbor Congregational Church — just across the street. In 2026 we will be able to have the sale back at the Jesup! Here's how you can help now: we need book donations and volunteers. Books Our Booksale is popular and successful because we make extra effort to provide a quality sale. We are grateful for the wide range of our readers’ donations but need to be mindful of our limited space for the sale. We send on to other distributors books that have been through several previous sales or items of which we have multiple copies, and we are trying to be especially mindful about the number of boxes our volunteers will actually need to move this year. We are always very careful about the condition of the books, so please don’t give us anything that smells funny or has wavy, stuck-together pages. We cannot accept magazines, dictionaries, atlases, textbooks, and nonfiction that is past its prime (e.g. medical or financial information from the 1980’s). Series authors (Penny, McDermid, etc.) and good quality classics are welcome, as are Maine authors. Children’s series will be popular. Knitting and crocheting patterns are welcome, but old craft books are not. CDs and DVDs are good, as are audiobooks, but we can no longer use videotapes or cassettes. Donations are accepted on Tuesdays 4 - 5:30pm and Saturdays 1 - 3pm at our sorting location (ask Ruth for directions). If you can’t make those times, we can make an appointment. Space at the Jesup is very limited, so unless it’s just a couple of books, please don’t drop them off there. Volunteers We will need your help to: set up the tents and tables on Friday, August 15th load the truck with all the boxes on Friday at our sorting location unload the truck on-site Saturday morning 7am - 8am set up the books Saturday 8am - 10am and sell 10am - 4pm (you don’t have to do all day!) pack up the remainders at 4pm, load the truck, and then unload it at our sorting location take down the tents and return the tables take photographs to record this for posterity and the webs help with publicity in various media locations
