Malaga Island: A Community Erased

On Thursday, February 12th at 6:30pm, former Maine State Archivist Kate McBrien will appear at the Jesup Memorial Library in Bar Harbor to speak about the forced eviction and dismantling of the mixed-race Malaga Island community during the early 20th century. 

A leading historian of Malaga Island, McBrien previously held positions as Chief Curator and Director of Public Engagement at the Maine Historical Society and as Curator of Historic Collections for the Maine State Museum, where she curated the award-winning exhibition Malaga Island, Fragmented Lives. She is currently Chief of Staff for the Maine Secretary of State.

This presentation will be held by Zoom. The public may attend on Zoom or join others at the Jesup to watch the presentation together.
